What this website collects and what happens to it.

What this policy covers

This policy covers oogle.com and the forms, the website checkup and the visit counts on it. Work we do for a client under a written agreement is covered by that agreement.

What this website collects

This website sets no cookies, carries no advertising pixels and loads nothing from another company’s servers. There is no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel and no third-party tag of any kind, so no other company gets a record of your visit.

We do count visits, using our own software on our own server. It records the page, the site that linked you, any campaign tag in the address, whether the device is a phone or a computer, and the country the visit came from. That counter never records a name, an account, your IP address or anything that identifies you, and there is no profile that follows you between visits or between websites. To stop one visitor flooding the counter, the server keeps a scrambled, one-way version of the IP address in a rate-limit counter, and it does the same with an email address on the contact forms. Neither is ever written into the visit counter, neither is joined to anything, and neither can be turned back into the address it came from.

The same counter records a few things people do on a page: which of the two main buttons was pressed, whether a phone number was tapped, whether a form was started or completed, whether a checkup was run, and the address of any link followed to another website. It records what was done, never who did it.

On every page, your browser stores one small record for the length of that browsing session: the page you arrived on, the site you came from, and any campaign tag in the address. If you go on to fill in one of our forms, that record is sent with it, so we can tell which part of the website brought you to us. It holds no identifier, it is never sent anywhere else, and it is gone when you close the tab.

The website checkup

If you use the free checkup, we fetch the address you enter the same way a visitor’s browser would, read what that page publishes, and show you the result. We do not log in to it, submit anything to it, or send it anything a browser would not.

The request comes from our server, not from your browser, and it identifies itself as OogleCheckup. It appears in that website’s own logs the way any visitor’s would. Please only check a site you own or are responsible for.

One optional part of the checkup can use Google’s PageSpeed Insights service to add Google’s own speed measurements to the report. Where it is switched on, the address you entered is sent to Google so that it can run that test. Nothing about you is sent, and the rest of the checkup runs entirely on our own server.

We keep a count of how many checkups were run, whether they finished, and the address that was checked, so we know the tool works and so it cannot be pointed at one site over and over. We do not store your report and we do not ask for an email address to show it to you. The report is on your screen and nowhere else, and closing the page is the end of it.

What the forms collect

  • Your name, email address and, if you provide it, your phone number
  • Your organization and website address
  • The description of the problem or project you write
  • Your preferred contact method and, on the help form, how urgent it is
  • Any files you choose to attach
  • Technical information sent with your submission: your IP address, your browser’s identification string, the page you submitted from, the page you first arrived on, the site that referred you, and any campaign or advertising click tag in the address you arrived by

The technical information in that last point is stored with the submission. We use it to answer you, to tell a real inquiry from an automated one, and to enforce the limits that keep the forms usable. It is not used to build a profile of you, and it is not joined up with the visit counter described above.

We ask for the minimum needed to reply. Please don’t send passwords, payment details or sensitive personal information through the form. If we need access credentials, we’ll set up a secure way to share them.

What it’s used for

To answer you, and to do any work you go on to ask us for. We don’t sell, rent or share submissions for marketing, and contacting us won’t add you to a mailing list.

Server logs

The web server keeps standard access logs, which include IP addresses, requested pages, timestamps and browser identification. These are used for security and for diagnosing problems with the website itself.

Who else can see it

A form submission is stored on our own server and delivered to us by email. Where an outside provider is involved in that delivery, or in the system we use to keep track of inquiries, it processes the submission on our instructions and for no other purpose. Nobody else receives it, and it is never sold, rented or shared for marketing.

How long submissions are kept

Inquiries that become work are kept as part of the client record for as long as we work together and for as long afterwards as our tax and legal obligations require.

Inquiries that do not become work, and the files attached to them, are reviewed and deleted periodically. We do not delete them on a fixed schedule, so if you would like yours removed, ask us and we will do it.

Visit counts are not tied to a person and are kept as a running record of how the website is used.

How we protect it

Submissions and any files attached to them are stored outside the public area of the web server, where a web request cannot reach them. Attached files are renamed on the way in, checked by their actual content rather than by their file extension, and limited to types that cannot execute. The site is served over HTTPS only, sets no cookies, and tells your browser not to load anything from another company’s servers.

No system is perfect and we do not claim otherwise. If you have something genuinely sensitive to send us, ask first and we will arrange a better channel than a web form.

Children

This website is for businesses and organizations. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it.

Your choices

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We’ll do that unless we’re required to keep it, and we will not treat you any differently for asking. If we turn a request down we will tell you why, and you can ask us to look at it again. Contact hello@oogle.com. We may need to ask you something only the sender would know, so that we do not hand somebody’s inquiry to the wrong person.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are used in United States state privacy laws. There is no advertising technology on this website and no third party receives a record of your visit. Several states give residents rights of this kind; we apply the paragraph above to anyone who asks, wherever they are, rather than asking where you live first.

This site does not track you, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off. We honor them by not doing the thing in the first place.

Links to other websites

Our work pages link to sites we have built. Once you follow a link you are on somebody else’s website, under their privacy policy, not this one.

Changes to this policy

If what we do with information changes, we update this policy and its date. We do not apply a change backwards to information already sent to us.
